What's New in Frickbears 3

FB3 represents a massive leap from the Scratch-based originals. Here is everything that changed.

2.5D Gameplay

The series left Scratch behind entirely. FB3 runs on GameMaker Studio 2, delivering smoother frame rates, higher-resolution assets, real lighting and shadow effects, and full audio mixing. Camera feeds, office views, and hallway perspectives use a 2.5D rendering approach that creates genuine depth and parallax, making the pizzeria feel authentically unsettling.

3D Free-Roam Salvage

After each night, players enter fully 3D salvage segments set in abandoned pizzerias. Walk freely through decaying rooms, locate animatronic parts scattered among debris, dodge environmental hazards, and make collection decisions that directly alter your story route and which animatronics appear on future nights. Salvage is where route endings truly diverge.

Four Playable Guards

Choose from Jeremy Fitzgerald (Easy), Mike Schmidt (Experienced), Vanessa Shelly (Hard), or Fritz Smith (Lunatic). Each guard maps to a difficulty tier and unlocks unique dialogue, route branches, and different animatronic behaviors. Your guard choice is the single most impactful decision you make before Night 1 begins.

Multiple Story Routes

Your choices during salvage, your guard selection, and your mask usage all feed into a branching route system. The game has a Normal path, a Mask/Michael Route, a Salvage/Vanny Route, a hidden Susie Route, and a secret True Ending that requires very specific conditions across multiple playthroughs to unlock.

Boss Fights

Each major route ends with a unique multi-phase boss encounter. The Mask Route pits you against Nightmare Animatronics in a survival gauntlet. The Salvage Route culminates in a monstrous salvage abomination. And the True Ending features Psychic Foe Fredbear in a WarioWare-style minigame rush that tests every skill you have learned.

Token Economy

Earn tokens by surviving nights, salvaging animatronic parts, completing challenges, and meeting optional objectives. Spend them at Lolbit's Shop on power-ups like extra battery, slower heat buildup, bonus audio lures, cosmetics, and critical unlocks that gate secret rooms and rare animatronic encounters. Token income scales with difficulty.

Custom Night

Build your own nightmare with all 40 animatronics at custom AI levels. Set individual aggression from 0 to 20 for each character, mix and match threat combinations the story mode never throws at you, and push for impossibly high scores on the community leaderboard. Custom Night is where speedrunners and masochists find their home.

Community Mods & Custom Guards

An active modding scene on GameBanana covers custom guards, character reskins, difficulty tweaks, and deeper gameplay overhauls. The safe starting path is to run the base game once, then use the add-ons flow described in the dedicated mods guide instead of dropping old files into random folders.

Choose Your Night Guard

Each protagonist is tied to a difficulty tier and unlocks different story content. Your guard choice shapes the entire playthrough.

Easy

Jeremy Fitzgerald

Jeremy has been fired from 12 jobs and is taking the summer night guard position to pay his college tuition. He is the recommended starting point for all players. Jeremy's playthrough includes tutorial overlays during Night 1, the most forgiving animatronic timers, slower aggression ramp-up, and fewer active animatronics in early nights. His story focuses on the surface-level pizzeria mystery, giving new players time to learn camera patterns and mask timing before the deeper lore kicks in.

Experienced

Mike Schmidt

Mike took the job on his career counselor's recommendation and vows not to slack off this time. He represents the balanced middle ground for players who already understand FNAF fan game mechanics. All core systems are active from Night 1 with no tutorial prompts. Timer decay is faster, salvage segments introduce harder-to-spot parts, and animatronic AI follows standard aggression curves. Mike's story digs into the corporate side of the pizzeria franchise.

Hard

Vanessa Shelly

A former Fazbear Mega Pizzaplex employee with vast knowledge of the animatronic lineup. Vanessa's shifts are punishing: animatronics move faster, power drains quicker, and the heat gauge climbs relentlessly. Salvage segments feature aggressive environmental hazards and tighter timers. She has fewer starting resources but deeper lore access, and her playthrough is the most natural path into the Salvage Route ending, which contains story content exclusive to her perspective.

Lunatic

Fritz Smith

A short-notice hire obsessed with tampering with the animatronics. Lunatic mode is FB3's ultimate challenge. Fritz faces the full 40-animatronic roster from Night 1 with maximum aggression, minimal power reserves, no shop discounts, extremely tight salvage windows, and extra boss phases on route endings. A single mistake is often fatal. Fritz's run is the only way to encounter certain secret animatronics and is required for 100% completion.

Use the dedicated guard pages if you want the real differences between Easy, Experienced, Hard, and Lunatic explained night-by-night instead of only summarized here.

Core Mechanics

FB3 layers multiple systems on top of each other. Mastering each one individually is essential before you can juggle them all on harder nights.

Camera System

Flip through security cameras to track animatronic positions across multiple rooms. The camera panel includes a ventilation tab for monitoring airflow and a dedicated Prize Corner feed for the music box. Cameras consume power while active. Certain animatronics freeze when observed, while others move only when you are watching. Learning which is which is the key to efficient camera usage and power conservation.

Door Controls

Slam the left and right security doors shut to block hallway approaches from animatronics. Doors draw significant power while closed and cannot be held indefinitely. Some animatronics will pound on closed doors, draining extra power with each hit. Use doors as a last resort when the mask and audio lure both fail, and always release them the moment the threat passes to conserve energy.

Freddy Mask

The signature defensive tool. Put on the Freddy Mask to fool animatronics into thinking you are one of them. The mask works against Balloon Boy, Golden Freddy, Toy animatronics, and most hallway threats. It is useless against Foxy, Mangle, and several boss-phase attackers. Timing is critical: put it on too early and you waste precious seconds; too late and it is game over.

Audio Lure

Deploy sound bait to redirect vent-based animatronics to a different room. The audio lure has a cooldown and limited effective range. In FB3, animatronics actively resist the lure more than in previous games: some will only be diverted once per night, and certain enemies on higher difficulties will ignore it entirely. Strategic placement can buy you breathing room, but a poorly timed lure can pull enemies closer.

Flashlight

Illuminate dark hallways to check for lurking threats and stun light-sensitive animatronics. The flashlight is the primary counter to the Endoskeleton and can push back RWQFSFASXC (Shadow Bonnie) when used at the right moment. The flashlight has a battery meter that recharges slowly. Over-use leaves you in the dark at the worst moment. Lolbit's Shop sells extended battery upgrades.

Music Box

Wind the music box via the Prize Corner camera to prevent the Marionette from activating. If the music box winds down completely, the Marionette activates immediately regardless of other defenses and will end your run. Winding the box takes your attention off other cameras and leaves you vulnerable to hallway threats. On higher difficulties the music box unwinds significantly faster.

Temperature & Heat

The office temperature climbs when ventilation is off. Higher heat accelerates RWQFSFASXC manifestation and causes hallucinations that make controls unreliable. Turning on the fan cools the room but creates noise that attracts sound-sensitive animatronics. Balancing heat is a constant tug-of-war, especially on Vanessa and Fritz runs where the gauge climbs faster.

Token System

Tokens are FB3's universal currency. Earn them by surviving nights, salvaging animatronic parts, completing minigames between shifts, and meeting optional objectives. Token income scales with difficulty: Fritz earns nearly double what Jeremy does per night. Tokens carry across runs if you do not reset your save file, allowing you to accumulate wealth across multiple guard playthroughs.

Salvage Segments

Between nights, enter fully 3D abandoned pizzerias in free-roam salvage mode. Locate animatronic parts, avoid environmental hazards, and make collection decisions that directly shape which animatronics appear on future nights and which story route you follow. The salvage segments are where the Mask Route and Salvage Route diverge. Completing all salvage objectives is required for the True Ending.

Story Routes at a Glance

Your guard choice, salvage decisions, and mask usage determine which story route you follow. Each route has its own final night, boss encounter, and ending cutscene.

Default Path

Normal Route

The Normal Route is the default path for first-time players. Complete Nights 1 through 5, purchase Talbert's Files from Lolbit's Shop between Night 4 and Night 5, and survive the standard animatronic escalation. After Night 5, you are sent to Night 6 at Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental, where the stakes intensify. This route reveals the surface story of the pizzeria's financial collapse and the corporate cover-up. No boss encounter in the traditional sense, but Night 6 is significantly harder than anything before it.

Mask Path

Mask Route — Michael Afton

Triggered by collecting all four hidden masks scattered across camera feeds and salvage segments. Once all masks are gathered, Night 6 transforms into a pursuit sequence through a collapsing pizzeria where you face the Nightmare Animatronics as a multi-phase boss gauntlet. Survive all phases and the souls trapped inside the animatronics are finally freed. The Mask Route is considered the "canon" good ending by most of the community and reveals Michael Afton's full connection to the Frickbears timeline.

Salvage Path

Salvage Route — Vanny

Unlock this route by salvaging every available FFPS scrap animatronic across all nights without missing a single part. The Salvage Route follows Vanny's descent and climaxes in the underground salvage warehouse where all collected parts fuse into a grotesque salvage abomination boss. Defeating it triggers the evil ending: the player character keeps the salvaged animatronics for their own purposes. Vanessa's guard playthrough makes this route significantly easier to trigger due to her extended salvage timers.

Secret Path

True Ending — Psychic Foe Fredbear

The game's ultimate secret ending. Requires completing ALL three other routes across separate playthroughs, collecting every token, purchasing a hidden item from Lolbit's Shop that only appears after 100% salvage completion, and playing as Fritz Smith on Lunatic difficulty. The True Ending features Psychic Foe Fredbear as the final boss in a WarioWare-style minigame rush that tests every mechanic you have learned across the entire trilogy. This is the ultimate resolution to the Frickbears story.
